Bahraich

The Wheat Stalk Handicraft products made in district have gained immense popularity. Craftsmen in the region make unique artwork whose shape of the drawings is prepared on cloth frames using wheat-stalk. The brightness of these artifacts increases with time. Three craftsmen of Bahraich have been honoured with the state award for this craft.

Introduction

Bahraich is situated in North eastern part of Devipatan Division. District Bahraich has an international border with Nepal on the Northern side. The economy of Bahraich district is mainly agrarian in nature. The principal crops of the region are wheat, rice, sugarcane, pulse, and mustard. Sericulture is another occupation of the people of the region. The district has 67926 hectares of total forest cover which is 13.97% of Total Area of District. Most of the industries in this region are based on agricultural and forest products. Bahraich is one of the 21 districts of Uttar Pradesh having minority concentration and considered to be backward. The major product that is being produced here is Wheat Stalk Handicrafts.

Food Processing

Bahraich is not penurious for any introduction in the field of Food Processing. Pulses are harvested here in large scale being the topographical area of district as lowland. Apart, Wheat, Paddy, Maze etc. are also other crops farmed here. Vegetables, which are of daily use, also processed alongwith these food grains so that their supply can be ensured during off season. Keeping the Potato in cold storage and keeping green peas as fresh through processing, are one of the major cottage/small scale industries available in this district. Presently a big portion of rural population of Bahraich is involved in the field of food processing.
