Gaura stone
Mahoba is known nationwide for its exquisite gaura stone craft. Gaura stone craft is made of radiant white colored stone that is predominantly found in this region. The stone craft holds a very special place in the world of art and craft. Gaura stone has a soft texture. It is cut into several pieces which are then used for making various craft items that are used for ornamental purpose. Artisans from Mahoba are known worldwide for their unique artworks of unmatched specimens of Gaura stone handicraft.
Introduction
Mahoba is a small district of Uttar Pradesh that is a part of Chitrakoot Division. Mahoba town is the district headquarters. It lies in the Bundelkhand region. It lies near to historical places like Khajuraho, Laundi, Kulpahar, Charkhari, Kalinjar, Orchha, and Jhansi. The district was carved out from the erstwhile Hamirpur district on 11 February 1995.
Metal Craft
There is really no competitor of craftsmen of Mahoba in dealing with metal. The artifacts made of Copper, Brass, Zinc and Iron, are used in various parts of the country. Sculptures of religious importance, sculptures showing historical stories, decorative pieces are famous among these artifacts. Sculptures of Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesh made of Octal Metal are much liked items of this district. Now this industry has stepped up from cottage industry level and attained the level of small scale industry. Modern technology has also entered in the industry alongwith traditional ways of manufacturing, reason being the quality and finish of products has been enhanced as world class. This industry provides employment to a bigger portion of the population of the district.
