    Tribal Craft

    The craft made at Shravasti are mainly handmade and people of Tharu tribe of the district are engaged in making these traditional craft which are supplied to Local Market and National & International Market. It is a traditional sector and applies to a wide range of creative and design activities that are related to making things with one's hands and skill, including work with textiles, moldable and rigid materials, paper, plant fibers, etc. Moreover, the craftsmen also make variety of products including cloth sheets, covers, tablecloth and more. The exquisite embroidery done through patching on women suits by these craftsmen is also quite popular.

    Introduction

    Shravasti was carved out from districts of Gonda and Bahraich. Bhinga town is district Headquarter. Shravasti district is a part of Devipatan Division. Shravasti shares its border with district Balrampur, Gonda and Bahraich. Bhinga, is approximately 175 kilometres away from state capital, Lucknow. Shravasti is located near River Rapti. The district is one of the main sites for Buddhist pilgrimage as well Jain Pilgrimage. The total forest area in Shravasti district is 34,238 hectare.

    Furniture

    Shravasti district is well famed for furniture manufacturing. Wood used in the manufacturing is supplied locally up to the 97% of total demand. Because this district is well prosperous in forest resources. Rosewood, Teakwood, Acacia Wood (Babool), Neem wood etc. are used in manufacturing of furniture. In every ceremony organized in the city, locally made furniture is used. Main reason of extensive use of furniture is its credibility. In the national level exhibitions, furniture manufactured here, are displayed. Marketing of the products manufactured here is done in nearby cities too. Furniture industry has an important role in providing employment.
