Jaggery

Jaggery making in Ayodhya is being carried out traditionally since generations. About 20% of the total agricultural land of the district is used for sugarcane cultivation. The district mainly produces jaggery and jaggery-products like sesame gajak, ladoo, chikki, gud ke ladoo etc. Sugarcane, the raw material required for making jaggery, is present here in abundance.

Introduction

Ayodhya district is situated on the bank of River Saryu, about 130 km east of Lucknow. Ayodhya has a large number of sugar refineries and mills for extracting oil from seeds. It is a market center for the produce including grain, oilseeds, cotton, and tobacco of the surrounding area. It is surrounded by Barabanki, Gonda, Basti, Ambedkar Nagar and Sultanpur districts.
