Due to being a forest area, there is abundance of wood (raw material) in Chitrakoot. A large number of craftsmen in this district are engaged in making wooden toys. The toys produced here are sent to different districts of the state for sale as well as for fairs and exhibitions.
Chitrakoot in Uttar Pradesh is the district headquarters and was carved out from the erstwhile Banda district on 6 May 1997 as a new district. The district was initially named as Chhatrapati Shahuji Nagar. Later on 4 September 1998, it was renamed as Chitrakoot district. Chitrakoot is a place of great mythological relevance and religious importance.
